Well, the planets must have had just the right alignment, as I was able to get out with a good friend yesterday on his boat. We launched around 11:30 in the morning, water temp was 74. We caught a nice variety of species on a bunch of different methods. Walleye, smallmouth bass, perch, bluegill, and even a slimey trout. I am surprised the fish were so shallow with the warm water temps. From years past knowledge as soon as the temps warmed above 70, the walleye seemed to head out to deeper and cooler water. I guess there must be a lot of minnows cruising the shallows to keep the fish in the shallow water. We did mark fish in 20 plus feet, but the action we got shallow kept us content. Maybe the eating was more important than staying in comfortable water temps. Not many ski boats or fishing boats out. The weather reports must have kept them away. The walleye were between 10 to 17 inches, perch between 8 to 12 inches, bass were between 8 and 15 inches, the lonely trout was 17 inches, and the bluegill were nice and plump at 7 to 8 inches in length. We fished until 4:30. We trolled a bit with bottom bouncers and worm harness, also dragged plastics on jigs, dragged a road runner with a worm, casted worm harness and reeled in with a slip sinker, even got a few on my trusty gulp minnow and jig. I enjoy trips like that, as they do not happen often. I got to take a 9 year old nephew and he had a blast too.
