I really don't enjoy going to Echo in July/Aug and so far this year have just ignored it. Odd as it is the closet body of water to me. Why? Well as a bank tangler my options are pretty crowded at Echo as the beach lovers mob the places I can access and the small craft live in those coves playing splash your girl friend. But this morning, after a really big early thunder storm, I decided to drop over. Figured the storm would have most everyone indoors this morning. That was most mostly true, including the fish. I searched a few likely places for perch with my castable sonar but did not locate any active perch. Not even any little ones chasing my floating jig in. I did catch a few very small small mouth. Maybe the storm put them off too?
Anywho I have not really seen any ( or very many at least) Echo reports this summer and I am wondering if it had the bumper crop on young perch and bass that i have seen at RP PV EC Jordy? Mostly curious about how the future looks as the indicators for our other local water seem very positive.
On a side note. Next time I try Echo I am wanting to pullover in the rest area on the highway side and hike down the steep hill. I am guessing that not a lot of banktanglers do that. Mostly just kids cliff jumping. Should prove intresting

The brush right below that rest area, maybe a little toward the inlet, I bet is loaded with perch, lots of it coming out of the water now. Hope your next trip goes better at Echo.

I’m guessing too small to get their mouth on it.

I fished a tournament there on Saturday and there there was a huge clouds of perch below the cliffs that they jump off the ones I caught were around the 6" range maybe smaller.

That does not suprise me at all. If I was a perch I would hang out over there too. How did you do in the tournament?

Gabe Gabe i am not sure I can quantify " bumper crops" for ya. I Tend to use a lot of wordy words, But I have been swarmed at times at each the other lakes by 2- 5 inch perch close to shore. I shared some underwater footage at RP of this. Just feels like some really good spawn rates thus year and was hopping the same for echo ( maybe even some crappie or cats?)

Should prove intresting Grandson home on leave from Air Force, and he and I hit Echo this morning (8-16)..trolling .. not for smallies, not for perch..some good quality Rainbows in there..we did well, smallest 15", the rest 16 to 17...We DID see huge bait balls, lots and lots..I was sure hoping it wasn't underwater branches, or something else to get snagged on..never snagged, so possibly HUGE quantities of baby perch?? and plenty of real fish marks also, but not a fast bite for what we were seeing..maybe already gorged on the baby perchlettes? 'Bows we caught were very healthy, often sky rocketing, no skin flaws...of course he did most of the catching..great A.M. on the water, except for the wake boaters, etc. starting too early...

Glad you were able to get out with your Gson and caught so decent bows. From the sounds of it all this high water from the last two years have done wonders for the baby perch population, hopefully there is still a bunch of those bigger ones around too. When fishing for bows, do you use a dodger to attract them or just a lure?

Hey Curt..I'm pretty sure almost any 'pre-lure' attractor would work....however, I don't like the huge Lake Trolls that some guys use, even though they work..too much drag for me, less feel reeling in any fish...I do like the attraction they create, so make my own, on a smaller scale..6" length, 2 or 3 Willow, or Colorado blades, few extra colored beads...if I want, I can attach a couple of these together, or I'll often attach 1 in front of a smaller 3 or 4" dodger...This added 6" smaller troll will cut some of the side to side action of a dodger, so it's not as effective for Kokanee in the later season, but works well..for me..anytime trolling for cutts, 'bows, or even laker pups..
