Strawberry overnighter
#1
Hadn’t hit the berry for quite a while so we had the genius idea of fishing the evening Saturdy and camping on the boat then a quick early morning run before Sunday duties. Sat eve was a windy one but it calmed and we caught a few in the narrows trying to hide from the wind. One really nice 3lb cutt, a rainbow and the rest cookie cutters. After dark we beached the pontoon (intentionally) and had some “dinner” and snacks. Chatted a while and watched the sky for a bit before passing out. About an hour later Tom wakes me up saying “it’s starting to rain!!” So we quickly put the canopy up and dove under it. Not much real estate under that thing when you’re trying to sleep in a rainstorm but we survived. We both had wet feet and pillows from sticking out both ends of the canopy. Morning came quick and we fished a couple spots in the narrows before heading out to the main lake. Found some good bait balls and fish hovering so we locked it up and proceeded to have a great morning with lots of nice cutts. We probably turned off all the Koke dudes with our squealing over fish after fish but it’s rough to control emotion when it’s hot. We headed out around 10 but got our fill for sure. Water was about 66 deg, fish seemed to be suspending at 30-40ft in deeper waters. Caught a few just dragging a swim bait, white tube type stuff was the killer as per usual. A little bait tip helped a lot. Aside from the rain/wind the temps were awesome. Looking forward to that fall fishing.
