Prime for great fishing

June 10th<br>The Great North Woods is prime for some great fishing. This reporter had his annual trip to Lake Umbagog. This lake is a Small Mouth Bass factory. We boated over 100 bass! All the bass were caught on top water baits. Pop-Rs and Chug Bugs in natural bait fish colors couldn't be beat. Because of the wind we were forced to fish the south west portion of the lake. We focused on the Big Island area. This lake can be hazardous to navigate, go slow watch for rocks and when you find rocks go fishing.<br> <br>Back Lake in Pittsburgh receives healthy dose of fish. This is a great spot to take dad. You will also have the Connecticut river to fish. Parts of the river flows are controlled be the hydroelectric power generators. Check with Cindy at Tall Timber Lodge for updated river flows and fly selection. The Androscroggin River in Errol is have some decent mayfly hatches. This river is easily fished from shore. Watch for Moose!<br> <br>Little Diamond pond is another one of my favorite North Country ponds. Try an Elk hair caddis with green body. For the bait fisher, look for nymphs along the shore. About three to a size 12 hook will out fish worms every time.<br> <br>Upper Hall pond and Sky Pond are two more ponds to take dad fishing they are both fly fishing only and have special regulation on the size of fish you can keep. This make for a superb fishery.<br> <br>The lakes region is a must for the pan fish angler. Blue Gills and Crappie are running fat and hungry in Lee's Mill on Winnipesaukee. Small jigs and poppers will bring these tasty fish to hand. Small Mouth Bass are in the later stages of spawning in the northern reaches of Winni. Target the fish out side the spawning flats. Work a spider grub in 17 to 20 foot range, or try a curl tailed grub on a 1/8th jig head. Try to find large rocks off the spawning flats. Top water baits are always a hit early in the morning or near sunset.<br> <br>As for Squam lake, all I can say is wow! This lake never disappoints. Top water fishing all day. Be aware that construction continues on the new launch. Your safe bet for launching is the covered bridge launch on Little Squam. Big Rainbow Trout are caught in this lake. Remember Walter?
