A cat tale worth sharin'
#1
This is a good one.... Fishin' for catfish today with my grandsons. We were all using two poles and I had cautioned the boys to never leave their poles with the bail closed... yep, oldest gson's pole shot overboard in a second and was gone in about 5 feet of water. A good pole and reel -- probably in the $150 range.

Did everything we could think of to try to snag the line... threw out a big treble-- lost in the rocks; threw out a fish arrow with wings and drug in along the bottom... nope. Tried dragging the anchor through the area -- nothin'. Gson was just stripping down to go in the water and drag his feet along the bottom to feel for his pole or line when I hooked a nice cat. (Flash of light). I maneuvered the catfish on my line to the area where the pole went in and let the fish go to the bottom and back and forth.... yep, the fish went under the line of the lost pole and we were able to retrieve it. Used a fish to save a lost fishing pole. No fish on the retrieved pole and the fish on my line was released with a vote of thanks. Fun.

I did the same thing but with different results.a buddy and I were at Utah lake and I had a carp on when my other rod got yanked in.mine was about $350 set up.it was about 2 am. I tried looking for it but with no luck.I was about to just jump in until my buddy pulled up a old rusty chair out of the area I was going in.that changed my mind. With no possible chance of seeing didn't want to get cut up by having the wrong thing.

[#0000FF]I love a good fish tale (tail) with a happy ending. Too many of the other kind.

You need to go into the cat training business...or fish training. Gotta be a market for that kinda stuff.

Awesome, and lucky. I've hauled in a few random bits now and then, including a rod that looked like the swamp monster! Still haven't decided if it's worth the trouble of trying to clean. The reel was disassembled, never to be assembled again. Maybe if I just let my dog lick that rod long enough - she's game!

I don't always keep the bail open, but I di like to secure in a sturdy rod holder. Have had the rod laid across the boat take, or about take a dive. Damned carp! Sneaky cats!

Good story, happy ending. Plus that Gson gets to fish another day (with your gear!) [:p]
