Tried Mantua for a couple hours this afternoon. The water is very cloudy, i couldn't see bottom in 5 feet of water. Not sure whats causing this but the fishing was very slow. The ice was safe in all the places I drilled.

Hey thanks for the report where were you at? We were in the SE quarter about the middle. We fish 14 FOW, but it was slow for us as well. Thanks J

Hey on the cloudy water I think it's from a film of algae that collects under the ice and when you punch through you stir it up. The more you spin the auger as you go through the longer it takes to clear, but after an hour or so it should disipate and clear up. The water is actually fairly clear. I don't think it goes very far from where you stir it so I think you don't affect the fish too bad. Later J

I just got back from Mantua. I kept 7 fish. Let a few more go. I kept two 12-14" trout, two nice sized bluegill, and three little perch. Ice was at least 6" everywhere I drilled.
All fish were caught on a 1-1/2" blue/glow perch Hali sukkala tipped with a wax worm. The trout hit while deadsticking. The perch and bluegill bit immediately after jigging the bait. All bites were just off the bottom in 6 to 12 FOW. Charging the glow often seemed to help.

Very nice report, thanks for the ice thickness update. I'm sort of surprised it hasn't gotten thicker than that, but that should be good and safe now. Thanks for keeping us up to date. Later J
