Mantua Weekend
#1
I went to Mantua both Saturday and Sunday.

Went Saturday with my Dad, the ice was great, 2" solid ice on top of 2" slush (never broke the top layer walking) all over 6-7" solid ice. The edges were hard and safe.

Fishing was slow, picked up lots of fish on the finder, but very few takers. Between the two of us we had about 10 fish. Most of the fish very small. like 3" bass small, but did manage a few nice rainbows.

Sunday the fishing was much better for myself and two buddies, and on the way off the ice it sounded like it was good for others.

We hiked from the west side across to the point, fishing started very slow again, but after moving we started to catch several nice bluegill and a few nice trout. no good perch or bass. In total we landed about 10 each.

17' of water, best producers where the bright colors, (Orange, Pink ice flies tipped with wax worm) but we got a little action off some random patterns. trick seemed to be short aggressive jigging, followed by dead stick, strikes came on the dead stick. The aggressive jigging would bring them up off the bottom to look then calming down got them to bite.

The bite was very light and we lost a lot of worms. I recommend threading the wax worm onto the hook instead of nose hooking or wacky rigging.

We have been trying to find the perch up there with little success. If anyone has any advice for locating the perch it would be greatly appreciated.
