Took five grand kids to our families annual ice trip. Bountiful pond . Ages ten to three. Lots of fun great ice, but no fish. Three other groups spread out but saw one fish caught.
I would guess no stalking lately. Still kids know how to make fun.
Does anyone know about the ice at south Marian, Willard??

The ice is plenty safe at Willard, 7" or more, even out in the Bay but I doubt the catching will be any better than it was for you at Bountiful pond. There is open water in the channel at the South marina, so if you go there, I'd be very careful. Also the channel at the North marina is iffy because of the spring there that did not look good last Fri & Sat. We got on the ice at Eagle beach.

Curt, I remember a conversation from last year about snowmobiles at Willard for ice access... If I remember right for some reason you couldn't use motor vehicles from Willard state park, was that true? Just thinking it would be a lot of fun to run out to the distant points on the bay with the sled, but don't want to get a ticket if I'm not supposed to... Thanks J

It is illegal to access the ice there from anywhere other than the boat ramps, so since the channel out of both marinas is not safe, there is no way to get on the ice there. I haven't talked to the Park manager this year but that is what he told me in the past. They don't want ATV's or Sheds driving over the beach areas.

Ok thanks Curt. Seems like a short sighted policy if they want to keep the dollars coming in. Plenty of other places to go. Later J

Yes it is but they don't seem to care. In the Winter they cut back on their work force, so they feel it would make more work for them if people actually went out there much[crazy].

I haven't iced fished willard miuch in the past decade, but are you serious that you cannot walk out on the ice from the beaches north of the Marina ?? That is the lamest thing I have ever heard, especially if the ice in the Marina and channel are unsafe. This needs to be taken up with the State Parks folks !!

LOL, no I did not say that, you can walk out from anywhere around the lake, you just can not take an ATV or Snow machine out from anywhere but the boats ramps.

Well can't blame them for liking a slow season, but it would be nice if they would designate a trail that would access the lake. It would be pretty easy from that pavilion where we had the flotilla. But then again it makes work and you'd have folks around interrupting your naps. Hope things can change it would be fun to run out to the light pole or that trench to check it out, but I'm not walking that far. Later J
