Tagged Rainbow Trout
#1
Hi everyone.

I wanted to tell everyone I caught my first tagged fish as well as my second tagged fish today. I attached a picture of them with the other fish I caught. I already reported both to Fish and Game and they were pretty excited. I am excited also.

Hi there.

I am not sure if the tags are worth money or not. They did not say 'reward' on them. I honestly do not know. I will figure out soon enough.

I caught these at Marsing Island Park, by the way.

I caught one with a tag that said $50.00 reward . Sent it in and never received anything.I have caught several with tags and they get back to you and tell you where they were planted and how big they were then .

Hi there.

Thanks for that information. They might not be worth money, but it will be really interesting to see where they were planted and how big they were!

Anyway, IDFG really appreciated me bringing the tags in. They said "We really appreciate it when anglers bring in these tags."

I caught one that had a $100 reward on it. I got the money fairly quickly.

Curt's wife probably spent the money without telling him...... [Wink]

Curt69,
Sorry to hear about your missing $50 reward - that is disappointing. I've looked into our fish tagging records to see if I can figure out what happened to your reward tag payment. I've got a question about one of the tags you reported that should shed some light on what happened. Check your private messages and hopefully we can solve it.

Thanks,

Funny story about the $100 fish I caught. I told my wife that since I was getting paid to fish I could quit my job and fish full time. Sadly, she said, "Sorry dear, $100 every 40 years isn't going to cut it". [Smile]

The reward was paid . There were 3 of us fishing together the day it was caught . We caught 4 tagged fish and were going to split the reward . I now know the reward was paid and the person I was fishing with lied about receiving the money .

Nope , not since I retired 4 years ago . I should have known . He never paid his fair share for fuel . I want to thank fish and game for getting back to me so fast . It is nice to know they are watching our forum .

Hi everyone,

Well, I got a letter from Idaho Fish and Game concerning the tagged fish. It turns out they were not reward fish, but its still cool! They were both released in Marsing Pond on May 4th, 2017, and they were 10.5 to 11 inches long. They really appreciated me reporting the fish!

Personally I think they should hand out a license or 2-pole permit vouchers instead of cash. Maybe even a lifetime license voucher for the person who catches the most tagged fish in a season. Keeps IDFG from handing out cash while still promoting getting out and fishing as well as reporting. I caught one last year and I got a cool summary of where/when it was stocked, let's just say mine was lazy and hungry!

The ones i have caught that were tagged seem to be the same. planted within a few weeks at the most. I would be interested in seeing the information they have been able to gather from these tags. I would also like to check some off spray nests to see how many tags are in there. I have been able to spot tagged fish in the bear river and in stanley lake.
