Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Greg Mullens, an avid hunter and fisherman, along with his wife, Jessica, from Ohio chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316. Greg is an avid hunter and fisherman. When Greg and his wife boarded the boat, I asked him what type of fishing he was interested in – his response was that he would love to catch a Sailfish. With that in mind, we went directly to kite fishing.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, we were at the drop off which is in 120 ft. of water by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale. If you venture off another ¼ of a mile you would find yourself in 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off. I headed south of Fort Lauderdale to one of our 34 artificial wrecks located in Broward County in Fort Lauderdale. Being a charter boat or any fishing boat, it is very important to know where your wrecks are located. I set out two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite and one live Goggle Eye from the rigger over one of my favorite artificial wrecks located in 145 ft. of water. As the Mullens were discussing the events that had taken place so far on their vacation, action appeared on the right short. Jessica was our angler and reeled in an 18 lb. Bonito.

From there we reset the kite, and as we waited for his arrival, the black shadow appeared. Left short – as the dorsal fin and bill belonging to a Sailfish was out of the water, frantically chasing the live Goggle Eye until he captured him. Hooked up – Sailfish on – Greg was the angler and jumped into the fighting chair while Jessica took pictures. After a 25 minute battle, Joe, our mate, wired the Sailfish to the side of the boat. Pictures were taken and the Sailfish was released to fight again. Job well done, Greg.

From there we reset the kites and had two Kingfish sky rocket out of the water, however, they both pulled the hooks.

It was time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316, while watching the plasma TV.
