Willard Bay - 06/19
#1
Went to Willard Bay yesterday afternoon. Fished from about 2:30pm till 8:30pm. We did good, best Willard trip this year. Finished the day with 5 Walleye, 3 Wipers. Seems like a perch color cracks and perch color worm harness was the ticket. The few people that I talked to didn't do all that great. Even talked to a guy wearing a BFT shirt, no clue who it was.

What I find is odd lack of Wipers I've caught this year. Thought I read somewhere that Wipers haven't been stocked in 3 years at Willard. Do they plan on letting the Wiper population die off at Willard?

Glad you found some willing fish, they stock wipers in Willard every year, last year they stocked 137,640 of them in July. They are however stocking fewer wiper and more walleye, due to popular demand.

Here is a link to the stocking report, so you can check for yourself, they go back to 2002:

Just scroll down to the lake you are looking for.

Great report. I was going to head out there last night too but couldn't get out there. I think I'm taking my daughter out there or Mantua tonight.

The lake is being managed. There have been ups and downs in water levels and that has affected shad spawns and recruitment. In short, there have been more mouths to feed than there were baby shad to feed them. So DWR has reduced plantings to try to get the predator/prey ratio back in balance.

I am attaching a copy of last year's DWR report on Willard. That should provide more factual info than heresay or "read somewhere".

My logic tells me that this year I will see fewer large clusters of shad throughout the lake late summer. And so I would think that this year might be the year for the "return of the boils".

Just hoping.
