Drilled at the dam yesterday... saw about 4 in of funky ice..backed off carefully and did not fish. maybe in a week. Global warming? not many old long term ice fishermen are doubters anymore.

Top two inches of ice are snow turned to slush and refrozen over 3-3.5" of good black ice... It's not as bad as it first appears, but I have seen better ice conditions... The problem with Newton is the fish won't bite very well.. As for me the ice is okay, but probably not worth the time to wait out a bite... think I'll head back to Mantua where I can catch some fish, even if they are smaller... Later J
