Mantua ice
#1
Hoping to hit Mantua this Friday. Any reports on the edges and main body of ice conditions?

[font "Comic Sans MS"][#800000][size 3]I was there Monday and rode my sled out on the ice with absolutely NO problems what-so-ever. The ice is a foot or more thick and the edges are solid. Remember; unlike Hyrum, Echo, Rockport, etc., Mantua level does not fluctuate very much if at all. I will also be back on Friday and will again probably be the only one with a snowmobile on the ice. If you are already there when I arrive about 8 AM, flag me down and I'll stop by and say 'Howdy.'

Hey Bob, I will be going there later in the day with EyLayo but am wondering if you want to hook up earlier. I'll PM you.

Ice looked yesterday. There were maybe 3 people at the lake. Get your fishing in, ice will go fast next week.

I was there Thur for a couple hours. Walked on at the Northwest parking lot. First 1-2' at the edge were getting slushy, easily stepped over it. No issues walking across the lake. Me and my daughter caught about 20 fish, mostly perch, in 2 hours. Got 6 nice 10"+ keepers. The ice is definately softening. Only the bottom 2" is still clear and my hand auger cut through all 12" of it very easily.

If I were going out all day I'd take a plank with me. You could easily get on with little effort in the morning and have 4 or 5 feet of slush at the shore at the end of the day with these temps.

I was out Sunday morning from 9am till noon. Thanks to the report from other forum members and Bob. The edges are solid with easy access from the boat ramp.

First time out at Mantua, didn't know the lake only has a depth of 18'. The ice thickness is 13".

It was warm late morning and the surface water temperature is about 34F.

Not much luck today, only caught one 9" perch at 12' FOW.

Nevertheless, it was a beautiful day.
