An Otter Creek Smack Down
#1
A couple of us were going to try Otter Creek today since most of the ice came off in the Wednesday storm. My buddy had some farming chores get in the way so I went by myself. It turns out he was the smart one.[Smile]

I launched the tube at Tamarisk Point about 9:30 and fished until 2:30. The water temperature was 37-41 degrees and the visibility in the water was about 3'. The reservoir level is at 57% full. I tried a number of different flies and lines and did not have so much as bump.

The weather was great with 30's & 40's and no wind. There were a lot of shore anglers along with a couple of boats. Most of the shore anglers around me left around 1:00, I should have left with them[:/].

It was one of those days when the fish finder just irritates you, showing fish and yet no action.

I swear that the Cormorants must have read the State Park facebook post about open water. There were a bunch there and it's just been open water for a few days.

It was one of those really nice fishing days, the catching, not so much.[Wink]

Otter creek is one of my favorite fisheries but I’ve only fished it from boat. We usually anchor up and fish under bobber, but I’ll occasionally throw cranks with my second pole. We usually limit out but we haven’t fished this early either. Sorry you caught the smelly cat today, I did the same going for cats on Utah Lake.. beautiful pictures you got though. I haven’t seen it that smooth very often.

Dang I’m headed down tomorrow. Hopefully do better down on the south end. Or maybe I should go to Minersville instead?

Minersville was my second choice but only because it was a longer drive.

I wish I had taken the longer drive.[Wink]

[#0000FF]Surprising. I have always heard that OC is great right after ice out.

[#0000FF]But, best to get the skunk out of the way early so you can focus on catching fish the rest of the year. That's the way I prefer it. At least it is the way the fish seem to prefer it.

When I saw your name and the title, I figured it was the fish who had received a smackdown. Sounds like tough conditions. Thanks for reporting the bad along with the good.

We were able to fish OC last year on the 29th of January. Got skunked then too. We did not start catching fish until March.

You'd think I'd learn.[Wink]

At least I was able to get 2.7 miles of exercise even if I couldn't exercise any fish.[Wink]
