Hit Bear Lake on Saturday, after a slow 35 mph and slower drive of the canyon, I ended up at the lake a little later than hoped, but was still before 7:00 so headed to the east side and Cisco beach, as I rounded the corner I noticed the flag on the pole hanging limp so I started to take courage, but as I past the pumphouse I could see that was probably vain hope... The further north I went the bigger the waves grew... by the time I hit cisco the waves were close to two footers... I was going to bag it, but my brother talked me into putting my waders on and going and take a look... Well I stood in the waves on a rock while the waves from mid calf to waist level splashed by me and got my coat wet enough that the wind froze me stiff... 45 minutes on the rock and not a fish to be seen, so we bagged it, but as I talked to Mike he told me to try the community pond on the way home... That was a great suggestion, my niece hadn't ever been ice fishing so we trudged through the 2' snow drifts and got on the pond... I punched 5 holes and had a fish on in less than 30 seconds, so the crew came over and I gave them all a pole and it wasn't long and everyone had fish on... We ended up with two Quad catches with four fish landed at the same time, lots of triples and doubles... It was really fun, my niece had a great experience with ice fishing... Thanks Mike... Probably got a dozen fish each, from 6-14" ers... Wind came up and sent us to breakfast, made a great trip out of a bust... Appreciate your tip... Jeff

Well that does not sound like any fun at all, at least the first part but Ira and I have fished that pond too with the same experience. Must not be a lot of people fishing there during the Winter.

Looked like maybe one other set of holes still visible in the ice, so you're probably correct, not a lot of winter pressure... Later J

Hey Jeff,Glad you were able to salvage the trip! That pond is always easy ice fishing! Better luck next year for the Cisco and I'll drop in and update if the lake freezes thick enough to fish on. Last night was 15-18 below zero, so it is skimmed up about everywhere now and just might get thick enough if we can avoid any wind for a week.

Thanks Mike, I was wondering if it had been cold enough to tighten things up... I'm surprised you didn't get colder, we've had 30 below the last two nights... Hopefully tomorrow will ease up a little before our pipes all start to freeze up... Seems like that much cold seems to soak through the walls and freeze stuff that's not supposed to be freezing... Still at 3 degrees tonight and the last two nights have been about ten below by this time of night, so maybe it will be better tomorrow morning... Hope so, it's been too cold to think about ice fishing... Later Jeff
