Willard Grind for Cats
#1
I took my boss and coworker to Willard this morning, we launched from the south marina around 6:00 am and put our fligs in off of Pelican beach. It was really slow initially with a number of pop and drops until the sun got higher in the sky then we steadily started putting cats in the box with a total of 14 with a couple foot long cats released when we quit around noon. The cats where much more tentative today compare to the last couple weeks when they where inhaling the bait. Chartreuse with three red dots was the most productive in 17-19’ of water. I have a new source of chubs from an irrigation canal less than a mile from my house where I caught 10 in an hour last night. using one of my ice fishing rods with a small ice fishing jig tipped with night crawler. It is nice not having to travel far for bait. The cool down from the cold front this week certainly slowed down the fishing. The largest one we caught today was 24". We did not see any wiper boils today.

Sounds like my trip on Tuesday.  The cooler water...after a lot of windy days...seems to have slowed them down.  But, like you did, I started getting more after the water warmed up a couple of degrees.  My biggest was also 24".

But today I got a 32 incher.

Were you at Utah Lake today? October 4th is the day Randy is available for Willard, will that day work for you?

Yep.  Met up with Pisco this morning for a few hours of cattin'.  Fairly consistent for fish between 26 and 32"...with quite a few over 30 and fat.

No other plans for 10/4...yet.  I'll keep it open.  Hope Mama Nature cooperates.  That will be right in the middle of prime perchin'...but the kitties will be bitin' too...just not fighting as hard.

NICE, a little big for your tube net, I'd suspect, but looks fun nonetheless.
