Uintah's

Road over the top is OPEN! Went to my favorite Unitah stream at the Sulphur Campground. Fished the first big beaver pond should have broken out the flyrod but I was having so much fun catching the little browns and brookies that I just kept plugging along. Only took home 1 small brown because it inhaled my panther martin all that was showing was the leader knot, OUCH. In that beaver pond caught 20-25 fish a mix of brookies, browns & a couple bows. Saw one monster trout it was easily 20-24" came out from under a cut in the bank I was standing on, boy was I suprised! But no luck in trying to pull it out. All the lakes I could see were still frozen over and it looks like they are starting to work on clearing the road to Trial lake. They had one lane open but I could not see how far it went up. Should be at least a couple more weeks before the Uintah Lakes open up. The Upper Provo is still running pretty high, but the Hayden fork of the stream I was fishing was pretty mellow.

Weather was fine until the early afternoon when the wind kicked up, but I was calling it quits anyway. Next time I visit there I will be throwing only the flyrod.

Thanks for the update on the Uintah's! I love fishing up there as well. I've never fished by sulpher, but I'll bet it is good. Can't wait for the ice to come off the ponds up there.

Alright! man i'm excited I can't wait till I can get up there again, it probably won't be until 2nd or 3rd week in june[Sad] Ya know me and my bro camped in sulphur once a couple years ago and we looked at the river and thought it looked no good, now recently I've heard a few different places that its great fishing right there[:/] Oh well I'm more of a lake fisherman anyway. What was the snow like up there?

Across the top there is plenty of snow looks like drifts in the 3-4 foot range in areas and I saw several snowmobilers around along the road side after going over the top there was snow in the 7-8 ft range in drifts.

Sulpher Cg's creek is amber colored and there are plenty of hungry browns, bows and brookies. They are a blast with a fly rod or a spinner.

I was throwing my spinner and casting a panther-martin tipped with 1/2 worm I was getting a hit on almost every cast. I found the fishing was better after I crossed the creek and fished the big beaver pond from the backside.

I'm looking forward to hitting Mirror Lake later this summer, last fall I caught a real nice albino on the backside of the lake and was catching bows in the bays with good consistencey. I'd had never fished Mirror lake before so it was a real treat.
