Scofield Question

I am heading out to Scofield tomorrow for a few days. I have never fished Scofield before. It will be myself, my dad, and two of my brothers. We will be on a 19 foot bayliner boat. I'm wondering the best way to fish Scofield. What different species are in Scofield and do the fish get very big in there?

Depending on how much suspended plant life is in the water, trolling a pop-gear worm combo is always a bunch of fun at Scofield. You'll most likely catch stocker sized fish trolling this setup but it always seems to produce. Lots of people find the north side of the island a good spot for still fishing. Use worms, powerbait, or the old worm and mallow combo. I like to cast and retrieve a 1/4 oz jig head with a tube jig over it. The retrieve should simulate a wounded or dying shiner. Aslo, #6 and #9 Pathner martins along with jakes are good spinning choices. All of these have worked for me from one time to another at Scofield. Thanks for the info. Are we pretty much going to catch planter sized fish all across the reservoir? Are there big bows in there like at Strawberry? Also, are there any reservoirs farely close to Scofield that might produce some bigger fish or better fishing from a boat?

Try fishing after dark, the bigger fish are being caught at night.Its a perfect time to troll or cast with the full moon.

There are rainbows, cutthroat, and cuttbows. There are a few big ones in there. I know of 2 ten ponders and a rumor of a 17 pounder being caught afew weeks ago by someone bait fishing by the island. Talk to the camp host about the 17 pounder he told my uncle about it.

One 10 pound cuttbow was caught at midnight on a flie in august by a floattuber and a cutthroat by me casting minnows in fall acouple years ago.

I would troll lures or flies on the surface at night or cast minnows under a Float for bigger ones. After dark you will hear the kerplunks and thrashing of them feeding.

Alot of the pressure from strawberry has shifted to scofield,so the bigger fish are becoming fewer.The only other place for big fish around there would be joes valley resevour. Good Luck and have fun!

In my opinion, you've got a good chance of getting a good sized fish out of Scofield. I've seen and landed several 5-7 pounders out of there. Another method I failed to mention was the minnow rig. The cutts at Scofield seem to love the minnows (natural food source). There have been times when everything you hook into will be good sized and others when all you can get are the planter sized. Hunnington res. is pretty close as well as electric lake and cleveland res. Good luck to ya.
