K2 (my son) and I hit Pelican yesterday afternoon for a little cold-warm water action. Fishing was slower than last weekend, but still pretty good. We are a little spoiled getting to fish Pelican a lot. I think a big part of the reduced catch rate was that you can't find a meal worm for sale in the Basin right now. Apparently the one mealy distributor doesn't think there's ice out here yet. We were reduced to preserved maggots and Power Maggots from Wally World. I didn't want to mess with night crawlers, which was probably a mistake. We fished about 500 yards straight out from the east end. Had to move around a lot and picked a few here and a few there. The first fifty yards of ice was a little thinner than I like, but was alright. Four inches of ice offshore. For the first time we caught way more largemouth than bluegill. Lots of cookie cutter bass from maybe a half pound to a pound and a half. Nice weather and lots of fun. There were about a zillion Canada geese out there which were quite impressive. I've attached an excessive amount of pictures for those like myself who are stuck behind a desk today and need an escape. Enjoy. Most of the fish were caught on Tube Dudes custom jigs he so graciously sent me last year. Thanks bro. Hey Leaky, I have no recommendation on hotels out here. I don't stay in them and they all seem about the same. Sorry. Later........
Good Fishing, Kayote

Great report and Great Pictures, thanks for sharing.
I seriously plan to try Pelican this ice season if the bite holds up long enough for me to find that body of water. I might have to swoop down upon during a Starvation run witch usually turns into a long weekend at FG.

Very nice report, thanks for posting it. Those gills are fatties and very nice bass, how deep was the water you were fishing in?

[cool]That looks like a total blast catching those rascally little warm water fishies! About how many did you guys catch, Kayote? I've gotta get out there one of these days. That just looks like too much fun. Those warm water fish fry up nicely, too. Makes me excited for the Perch lakes to freeze up around here!

WH2:
The depth ranged from 3 to 8 feet deep, with the best action at 8.
O4T: I'm guessing about 25 fish, give or take a couple. Last week I got over 40 by myself. Just depends on the day. I have gotten ice bass up to 5 pounds before, but they average about a pound. Gotten gills up to 25 ounces.

Hey Tuber,
I killed the fat brookies on the black jigs at Lake Canyon last summer. Pelican fish seem to like lighter colors for some reason. Maybe it's the murky water. I even caught a couple calicos and sandies on those heavy jigs on the big pond in June. I'm looking forward to a trip with you TD. Let me know when it will work for you and Tin. I'm up for it whenever you guys are. Later

Hey Kayote,
Thank's for the cool pictures and great report. I almost forgot how big those gill's are out there. Did you setup any kitty traps.. while fished for the gills and bass.
Let me know if you need any meal or wax worm's before I come out for New Years.

Hey Tin,
No catfishing. I never purchased the two pole stamp this year. Tuber wants to hit Pelican on the 30th. Can you make it?.

Great report Kayote. I'm glad I bought a few dozen mealys a little bit back. I keep bait in a tiny fridge in the garage, so they are still OK and ready to be chewed on. I think I have a couple dozen left if you need them. I'll be heading for Vernal later today. Let me know if you would like them and I'll bring what I have. I usually have a few containers around and a good stock of minnows and crawlers. The chub and shiner minnows get scarce out here in the winter as well as the mealys.
