Ririe Ice Fishing
#1
I fished Ririe Reservoir on Monday, Jan 17th and caught three fine-spotted cutts near the boat ramp. The ice is only about an inch and a half thick and makes a lot of noise if you try to walk out on it very far. I fished between the rock island and the shore just south of the boat ramp. The ice is much too dangerous to go out very far and in some places it looks like people have drilled, but those are major cracks in the thin ice and air pockets. With the reservoir now frozen over, each cold night will make ice and it should be safe by February 1st. By the time that I have time to fish, the ice should be great to get on it.

Hi Bill,

You are a diehard ice fisher being out on an inch and a half of ice. Thanks for testing the waters! By the way, a few years ago, I am proud to say that I took a very nice smallmouth in that same area fishing from my float tube. No, I wasn't fishing through the ice from my float tube.[Wink]
