SKUNK! There it is, that's my report. Well, I guess I shouldn't say I got completely skunked. I did manage to land and nice 70 lb. brown dogfish. Apparently my dog has an affinity for mealworms because she decided to pick one up off the ice that still had the ratfink attached. Needless to say I got to find out what sound a dog makes when you pull a hook out of its with pliers.
As for the fishing goes I fished off of the swim beach for a couple of hours, graphed big schools of fish all morning, but couldn't find a single taker. Talked to a guy with an aquaview and he said they were all about 2" long. Went over and sat on the boat docks for a hour on my way out. Same deal; tons of fish on the sonar and not a taker in the bunch.
Just a small note. I've never caught a tiger musky or a crappie in my life, so just because I didn't catch one doesn't mean someone with a smidge of experience couldn't. Any tips on catching crappie or tigers would be appreciated.

If you think it was tough to get the hook out it would have been a whole lot tougher to fillet him. It's a good thing you believe in catch and release. I don't know if there's enough crappie to even make it worth while in there. A few years ago we did okay, and they were dandies. Many few years ago there were a few good years. We would get there just before dark. Enough time to torch up the lanterns and hand warmers. We fished until midnight andf sometimes later. The crappie would come through suspended. You would either need a fish finder or a way to mark the depth with your line. Oh, the good old days. Just a tip. Head to Rockport. That seems to be the only good fishery this year an the perch are pretty decent.
