[#505000]Ok I got my allowance yesterday and decided to go to Sportsman's to buy a few new toys. About an hour later I managed to drag myself outside and see what I had bought. I was a little dissapointed to see that $77 dollars hadn't netted me much. [unsure][/#505000]

[#505000]I do realize that $30 was tied up in a battery and charger for my new fish finder, but the remaining $40 didn't go very far. Looking at my bag-o-treats I saw a lot of Berkley Power items. I would have likely bought them anyway since I wanted to try a few of their toys but boy o' boy does Berkley know what they want for their stuff or what?[/#505000]

[#505000]Now this whole experience got me thinking....... Are Berkley products worth the price? What's your opinion?[/#505000]

good question i have recieved some packages of thier gulp products i was not impressed with it at all didn't like the way it looked or the action and never caught a fish on it
now with that said let me say i have used power tubes for ice fishing and power worms for bass fishing and have caught fish on both BUT i think i have caught more fish on the cheap $ 1.00 bag of tubes i buy at sportmans ( in a rainbow pattern )
and more bass on zoom plastic worms ( red shad)
i think i is more important to use a color that matchs the forge to the lake you will be fishing something i can't seem to find in berkley products

I have used many of their "Power" products. I have yet to get a freshwater fish on their stuff. I have caught many saltwater species though.
The Saltwater species are a little dumber than the freshies and only bite on what looks like any type of food.[cool]

Depends on what you buy. I fish a lot of their minnow baits in streams and lakes around here and if you hear me or see me refer to minnow baits, thats usually what I'm fishing with. I got turned on to them for smallies and I'm sold. I catch more and bigger fish fishing in rivers with those things and I catch fish on minnows rigged all sorts of ways when I'm bass fishing. Bass, bluegill, all sorts of trout, white bass, perch, carp, and whitefish are the species I can remember catching on them. I'm sure walleye will hit them and probably catfish too if you left them sit in the lake with some garlic scent or something. I find that the fish hold them longer than flukes or bass assassin products and they are actually pretty durable. I fish their powerbait stuff up in the Uintas and it works when nothing else will. Thats just my experience but in a tough situation, Berkely minnows are my money bait. I haven't fished much with Power Jerk shads but I will get a bag and see if they are as good as some of the other stuff... just because it never hurts to expand the arsenal.... [cool]

Ive used some liquid scents on lures before but havent noticed much difference.
What smells do you like; the fishy ones like anchovy, sardine, shad, etc OR the food ones like garlic & anice?

Let me weigh in with my half of "scent". I have used just about every kind of bait and artificial imaginable for fresh water. As has been mentioned, the cheap stuff produces just about as well as the expensive - I don't think the fish look at price tags. That said, I have had very good luck with the Power Grubs and Maggots while fishing in streams. The tubes have produced bass for me in still waters, but I am not sure that a cheap one would not have done just as well. I have some of the paddle tails and crawdads as well - those I can't vouch for either as far as their "better" performance goes.
As you have read so far in this thread, there are many opinions about it. I would suggest just pick up some of your favorite cheapos and some of the expensive ones(try to get the same kind of each) - get the kind you use alot and compare them side by side on the same day and in the same place. You might find out like I did - it matters more what you do with the bait than the brand name of it.
Another option is to get the prepackaged liquid scents and apply them to whatever offering you present - the scents are very versatile and you can use them on your lures, flies and cut or live-type baits - you can even use it on insects and worms(yes, they have worm enhancers and scents) as a matter of fact, they even make salmon egg cologne. So if you wanted, you could make your frog lures or leaches smell like roe.
Bottom line ? It may or may not make you a more successful fisherman - but, can you really have too much of something that might catch a fish ?
