Any Scofield reports?
#1
I've been reading through all the recent reports, and I've read about Strawberry, Utah Lake, Rockport, Huntington, etc., but I couldn't see anything about Scofield. Has anyone been there lately? Has the fishing been so poor that no one wants to talk about it? I'm thinking of going up there in a few days, but I don't want to if the fish aren't biting.

[#505000]Depends..... shore fishing is very tough right now because there aren't many good access spots to fish from. If you can find a spot the fishing isn't bad though. Use minnows for bait.[/#505000]

As Carp Punisher said the shoreline access is totally different than it has been in the past. There are a lot of willows around the edges that are in the water and that is cutting the shore access in half. If you can get out in a boat or a tube that would be your best bet. I have seen a lot of people on the east side rocks which helps to find deep water. The west side is shallow as always but there are reports of fish being caught there. The bait of choice up there is definitely minnows sitting on the bottom of floated deep from a bobber. Any minnow imitating lure should also do well because of all the minnows running the shore lines and the fish coming in after them. My wife and I hit Scofield Saturday morning for a couple hours and brought in about a dozen nice cuts and bows.

I have a boat, and I can also use my float tube, so shoreline access is not a problem. Are the fish biting out in the deeper water (by the island), or are they around the edges hunting for minnows in the willows?

It all depends on the time of day. Contrary to some people's popular beliefs I have caught more rainbows in deeper water and the cutthroats in the shallows. You will have to try both places to see what works. The other day we got on the water at about 7:30 and didn't get a bite until 9:30 and the fishing was hot for two hours. Some times I cast in close to shore and some times I cast way out to try to get deeper. Different days and different times of day change what you have to do. Try both. If one is not working try doing something else. Good luck.

Me and the wife fished Scofield on the 4th and the 8th of July. We fished about 50 yards north of the island in 30 feet of water. Rainbow power bait, clear bouble and 3' of leader/ On the 4th we got to the Island about 7:30am and were off the lake by 9:30am with 8 fish, on the 8th we did about the same.Hope this helps
