Went to Jordanelle, chasing the smallies. Got there and the water was dang chilly for a tuber in just shorts and a T-shirt. Time was approximately six thirty am. I started casting topwater baits from shore, because I was freaked out by the cold water and I got one hit. But, perfect way to start my day, I'd forgotten to tighten my drag after attaching my lure so the fish pulled about fifteen yards of line off and spit the lure. That was the only hit I got from a bass all day long. AT JORDANELLE!!! [pirate] I should have been catching bass left and right with all the flooded structure, murky water, rocky/brushy banks.... it should have been a massacre out there but it wasn't. If it hadn't been for a sixteen inch rainbow and an ugly chub that I hooked into, I would have had skunk smell all over my tube. So, anyway, I expended energy and got burnt until about two thirty in the afternoon and then just decided to bag it. Now, before people think this was just me, I have to say that of all the bass boats I saw come in and out of the Rockcliff area, I only saw one boat catching fish, and they only caught a few rats before they moved on. The guy said they were fishing with dropshot rigs and I just know better than to ask more than that. His buddy in the back of the boat caught a nice two or three pound bass but other than that... nada. I saw a couple of trout caught but even those looked small. I did notice a dead deer floating in some debris out in the bay and when I got to work yesterday, I heard that there was a dead fellow floating in the lake over the weekend which kinda creeped me out a little.... [unsure] I was fishing my old standby plastic minnows after getting nothing on topwater or spinners. Just Mepps, no spinnerbaits. No taps from perch, and the only big fish I caught, the rainbow, just grabbed the plastic and ran with it. SHould have kept him but it was early and I expected a ton of bass.... Anyway, when I was getting out of the water, I looked back at the shore... and a big, probably fourteen inch largemouth swam by my tube about three feet from shore.... Talk about your ultimate ego smashers..... here is a big bass, that was probably there all day and I got nothing. Oh well. The daughter wants me to take her fishing this weekend so I figured I'd drive up the Mirror Lake highway and fish and also check out the roads and that. I went up by Soapstone, well, more up past Shady Dell and fished the Provo. I'd never fished that section....always go over and fish the Duchesne. But it was fun. I caught one brookie and a lot of little, gorgeous rainbows.... so, it was a good time. ANyway, after my bass failures, it was nice to go up there and catch some fish. Not quite the fight of a smallie but the numbers were good and kept my mind off of the X. I dare say, I probably won't make another trip to the X this year. It just was so unproductive that I'm spooked off of it now. Did anyone else fish it on Monday or has anyone fished it recently?? Anyone over the weekend? Maybe it just got pounded or something over the weekend but I couldn't catch a cold that day.....
