Strawberry fishing trip plan

We're planning a Strawberry fishing trip for this weekend with the whole family. I have never been there before, where are some good locations to look for trout and crawdads? I am familiar with some of the techniques and I think we will try jigging with shiners or chubs. But I don't even know where to start. Also can you catch crawdads anywhere or are some locations better for that too? Sure would appreciate the advice.

I would go check out the archived Strawberry forum in the main Utah page. A lot of good info in there. I haven't been to Berry for awhile.

I would try to find 35-50ft of water and jig a 3 incc white tube with either a crawler or a shiner on the tip.

like Flycasting said try about 35-50' of water probably no need to go far on the way back in last week we metered several schools of fish right out side the strawberry marina though we fished jakes bay most of the day

Even though my last trip sucked there are tons of places to try up there.Meadows, knolls,ladders, strawberry bay (west of the boat ramp)..If the wind is blowing find a bay and drift with your jigs and you should nail them!..Have fun!!

[cool]These guys gave you great advice for getting into the fish. As for the crawdads, they LOVE rocky and weedy areas, or areas that have both are best. The whole lake has crawdads, but some areas are better than others. I've done best there on the Soldier Creek side and the Aspen Grove Camprground area is great too. Do you know how to catch them? If you need help in that dept., just respond to this post, and I'll provide some tips. Good luck! I've also heard that the Renegade area has a ton of 'dads and not a lot of pressure for them there.

Thanks a ton for the info, I'll put it to good use.

Here's my plan for the 'dads: I have a crabbing net that we used in Washington to catch crabs. It is simply a weighted net that you can tie a turkey leg to and toss it out in the water as far as you can...maybe 20' or so. It has 2 rings the bottom is weighted and the top is larger in diameter. The rope is tied so that when you lift it, it creates a basket. It's a neat little rig and should work great, I hope.

[cool]That sounds like a cool net, and that it will work great! The turkey leg should do great too. Raw is better (if possible). Just look for those rocky weedy areas close to shore. Let us all know how you did!
