STRAWBERRY JIGG'N
#1
MADE IT UP TO THE LAKE YESTERDAY AROUND 5PM. I WAS EXPECTING TO KICK AROUND IN THE PONTOON FOR A WHILE BEFORE WE FOUND A SCHOOL TO SIT ON TOP OF. WITHIN FIVE MINUTES I HOOKED INTO MY FIRST FISH AND THAN ANOTHER TEN MINUTES LATER I HOOKED INTO ANOTHER. WITH THE WIND BLOWING LIKE IT WAS I COULD'NT STAY ON TOP OF THEM WITHOUT KICKING CONSTANTLY. AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR OF THAT I NOTICED A LARGE NUMBER OF FISH CRUISING THE SURFACE SO I STARTED FLIPPING MY JIG OUT TO THEM AND ON MY SECOND CAST WHAM A NICE 19 INCH CUTT. SO WITH THAT SUCCESS I KEPT ON WITH THAT APPROACH UNTIL DARK JUST CASTING OUT AND JIGGING BACK ALL WITHIN THE TOP 5 FEET OF WATER. WHAT A BLAST, FISH WOULD HIT THE JIG AS SOON AS IT HIT THE WATER OR RIGHT AT YOUR FEET SOME WOULD FOLLOW IT THE LAST FEW FEET AS THE JIG WAS ON TOP OF THE WATER LIKE A BASS CHASING A BUZZ BAIT. I HAD ONE FISH SNAP 10 LB TEST LINE LIKE IT WAS 2LB AND HAD A COUPLE OF OTHERS ABOUT PULL MY POLE OUT OF MY HANDS. I HAVE NEVER CAUGHT TROUT LIKE THAT BUT IT WAS AN ABSOLOUTE BALL. WE ENDED UP WITH AROUND 30 FISH BETWEEN TWO OF US WITH NUMEROUS AMOUNTS OF BITES MISSED.

That sounds like a ton-o-fun! When you can find fish that are that active, it sure makes for some great fishin'.

Sounds like some good fishing you got into, that can be a blast.

Right when the sun sets untill dark can be some fast fishing up on the surface. We would pull shallow runners and/or tube jiggs on the way back to the marinia and catch a fish every five minutes or less.

WE WERE USING 2 1/2 INCH DARK GREEN TUBE JIGS TIPPED WITH A 1/4 OR 1/2 A NIGHT CRAWLER. WE WERE FISHING IN WHAT I GUESS IS CALLED STRAWBERRY BAY, SOUTH AND WEST OF THE MARINA. I HOPE TO MAKE IT BACK UP THERE IN A COUPLE OF DAYS. IT TOOK ME AN HOUR TO WIPE THE SMILE OFF OF MY FACE. IN THE YEAR OF FISHING UP THERE AT LEAST A FEW TIMES A MONTH I HAVE NEVER SEEN IT LIKE THAT.
