Want to join a Bass club...
#1
Hey all,
Well, I've reached a point in my life where I think I'm ready to start getting a little more serious about bass fishing.
I already go fishing on my own every single weekend of the year, either with a buddy, aquantance, cousin, family, or just by myself. I've accumulated a bunch of equipment, rods, reels, tackle, lures, boats, motors, etc. etc. and feel like I'm at least a "competent" fisherman. (I didn't say pro, and yes I still go out and get skunked occasionally, like last weekend at Willard during the storm...)
I currently have a family boat (not fishing-friendly, in fact fish are not allowed on that boat) as well as a 14 foot aluminum that I've get rigged out for all kinds of fishing.
I don't really have an extra $300 to $400 a month laying around, nor do I have the time to dedicate 3 to 4 weekdays a month in the "big" utah bass clubs.
I would be totally interested in hooking up with someone looking for a permanent or semi permanent tournament partner who has a boat (I don't think my 14 footer will cut it...) to do the amateur tournaments. I can split costs, etc, and am available every Saturday and can get a few days off here and there if needs be, as well as leaving the night before to make it to a tourney location. I have been around boats for 20 years and have owned a dozen. In other words, I'm not looking for a free ride, because I know what it costs to keep a boat going, and I will treat a fellow boaters boat as my own. I'm not 100% in at this point until I find out more information...maybe I'm not as ready as I think financially and timewise, but I definately want to test the waters to see if I'm there.

I would appreciate any links to the local bass clubs that I could solicit myself as a non-boater until I get my own.
Thanks!
Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post.

Fish not allowed on a boat? I think that may be the worst thing I have ever heard.

sounds like you would like our club www.avbass.com we are just a few rednecks or poor guys too that like to fish. sounds like you would fit right in. in our club we have guys thinking to turn pro in a few years and guys that just want to fish. I've fished with most and dont mind any of them our tournaments are non boater friendly and next year I will be doing team club tournaments also. the cost for our club tournament are low for most of them. come to our club meeting in dec and meet us and see what you think. it took me one meeting with them to join and I had looked at a few clubs before. pm me fo more info but you can get a lot off our website and there is a forum on it.

Moose, call Mike. The AV website is down.

Plus, you have to use pink lures at AVbass.[Wink]

Lets see ...

You have so many options here.

First off, "non-boaters" are always needed and you would fit in to this category. Depending on where you live, there will be plenty of options. I am a member of Central Utah Bassmasters and it has been wonderful! Many different levels of fisherman here. We meet the first wednesday of every month at Cabela's.
Cost:annually ... 45 bucks
We fish a ton and have a great go at it.
Team bass cache valley seems to have a ton of fun as well.
If your not ready for a club, come out and fish my circuit. there is no annual fees and no club involved. just a bunch of crazy guys who love to fish and all of my tournaments are team events. the website is www.utbass.com and we can get you pointed in the right direction.

Good luck bro.

I have been trying the AVBass site for ages and it never responds. Who is your web master? I could take over the duties for free membership. Wink

Kinda depends on your location, lots of bass clubs around. Some do things some dont. Most of them are always looking for members-especially serious non-boaters. Im the Presdident of Team Bass Cache Valley and we are members of the Wyoming bass Federation www.wyobass.com so if you want anymore information you can pm me or call me or just go visit our website at www.teambassutah.com and take a look around the site and see what we do. Its alot of fun and if you really want to learn how to Bass fish you need to fish tournaments. As far as time and money its all up to you and how dedicated you want to be.

The Federation holds qualifiers on Flaming Gorge and CJ Strike in Idaho. Its more of a "regional" thing.

...wow!
Thanks everyone for the feedback. I'm pretty sure I could manage a trip to the Gorge, or Powell or even Wyoming or Idaho occassionally. Seasonally speaking, is the season winding down about now? I can't imagine bass fishing can be that competetive during the hard winter months, when does it start picking back up?
I'll start attending meetings, and hooking up via the web to get acquainted with the other club members and such in the meantime.
Thanks again for all the good info..I just need to digest it now!
Sounds like a lot of fun!
