Sumo 3/4 day fishing trip
#1
We went out Saturday morning out of Channel Islands Sportfishing Landing. We left at 7:00am on a special charter aboard the Sumo. Capt Mark at the helm, DH Sean on deck and DH Steve (TubeN2) running the spatula in the galley.
We headed down to the County line area of the coast just outside of Neptunes Net.
The fishing started off slow in the 52 degree water but that didn't stop a boat load of 15 anglers from trying to fish the kelp.
It took a little grumbling from the crowd and a few Johnny Bass to get the Captain to show them that a blind squirrel can find an acorn. Capt Mark pulled up a nice 4lb Calico from a deep sleep and now 53degree water. The bass was released (of course).
A few more lethargic Calicos came up as well as a stray Sand Bass. There were close to 200 Whitefish and Johnny Bass caught for the day and all were released due to current regs.
Chocolate Bass and Scullys also made it aboard in search of their rapid release. 2 tagged fish were caught, recorded and re-released.
All in all it was a good day for fishing. The water barely made it up to a whopping 55 degrees as the wind came in early to put a hamper on the rest of the trip.
We returned to the docks around 3:30pm.
