Wait for winter again, go out all night, night after night, and troll until you either get one or freeze to death trying. Dark moon and a blizzard will help too. Troll fast, with big minnow-shaped plugs.

He can either do that, and follow your instructions, or do something that will be a little more productive, like hunting elephant in the west desert.

Hey! Why dont we get cheap skate utah DWR to put some catchables in there. They wont be buying tiger musky anymore so they must have some spare change? They dont need to dump em in the lower Weber anymore either as the Feds have put the stops on parking off the free way to fish it so it technicly has no access anymore.

I didn't say it would be easy! [sly] But, he asked how to get one here, and that's as good a chance for a miracle as any.

The smart thing to do would be to go to western New York and fish the tributaries of Lake Ontario in late September or October. Oak Orchard Creek area, and many creeks between Buffalo and Rochester. 10 pounders are nothing, and fish over 20 are caught daily. Most creeks are elbow-to-elbow at times, but if all he wants is a fish "for the wall", it would be a lot cheaper than a hundred trips to the Gorge and several hundred nights of trolling in a blizzard. Air fare, a motel, a car for a week, a license, and some food. Around $1,000. With gas at $3.00 a gallon, it's cheaper than coming up here, and he'll have the mount for the wall by this Christmas, not 2015!

Second choice might be the White River and its tributaries in Arkansas.

Or, he could bribe Crossineyes into blindfolding him and taking him to his secret spot!

Browns at the Gorge? I didn't know the Gorge had browns in it. LMAO. No your about 20 years to late to have a good chance at catching a decent brown. If you was to get one my guess would be up around the Confluence and north. If your serious about browns in Wyoming stay away from the Gorge and hit the Green or Fontenelle. They don't hold the numbers they used to either but at least I have caught some recently.

Go to the Flaming Gorge Dam and take the tour. They will take you down to the bottom of the damn and when you go outside to where the Green river starts, look down in the river and BEHOLD!!!! There is where you will find the 15-20 pound browns as well as some huge cutts and bows. They have a little fish food machine down there too. Now getting in there with a fishing pole is the hard part. You'll probably do some jail time but if they let you keep the fish, it might be worth it.
Good luck!

I was just assuming that you might spend a day or two in jail. Maybe it is still just a fine. That's interesting that you know the exact fine amount, do you have something to tell us??? JK $285.00 for a 20 pound trout of my choice is pretty tempting.

Sounds like it is time for a black opp. Hike up from little hole one night in your best no see me clothes and a black float tube. Stash the tube at the boat launch. Hike with in casting distance of the base of the damn. Hook yourself a big one. Get in the tube and float back to little hole. And there ya go you are home free, just hope it does not mess with the fishing Karma to bad

here is a better way and you can do it with out frezzing or gitting a tickit..

find some rivers around you home that you can use bait on. get some red side shiners and some split shot's.. go and put that minnow down in the deepest holes and cut's in the bank you can find when you feel the littest of tap's on your line set the hook..

browns love them shiners..

good luck to ya..

10-16 pounders in the Uintas? I didn't think the trout in the uintas could get that big because of the extremely high elevation. I would love to see some pictures of those bad boys.

I'm a flyfisher who is tired of catching tons of little fish so I thought I'd see on the general board if anyone is catching big trout in Utah. In the last 3 weeks I've probable caught 300 trout but only 1 over 20 inches so I need a change. Any hints like are these browns on the south or north slope? I have a few places in mind from what I few people have mentioned to me over the past couple years but if you can cut my search area by 50% it would be greatly appreciated.
I'll probably also check if any bigger cutts are running early out of the reservoirs given the runoff is almost done this year. Probably try some of the tribs to Strawberry Thursday and save the Uintas for the weekend if it doesn't snow or rain too much by then.

If you want large trout, I would suggest that you move from the streams to the lakes.

your chances of hooking larger fish are greatly increased in stillwater.

You mentioned the tribs. running into Strawberry. I haven't checked the fishing regs, but I would think that they are closed to fishing until well after the spawn.

If you check recent fishing reports here on the forum, you will find many stillwater locations where large trout have been taken on a consistent basis.
