Pineview Tigers are Awake!!!!!!!!! 5/01
#1
Its amazing how this warm spell really woke the fish up!! Last week water temp was 56 and today I saw it as high as 65 in the bays. From what I saw it looks like the perch had a very good spawn this spring. Little 2" perch fry all over the place. You would see a cloud of them following in your lure on alot of cast. Also watched some shore anglers catching some Crappie out of the brush. You could also see them hanging aroung submerged bushes.

Ok now to the Tigers!!!! I have never seen so many Tigers as I did today. Should be good Tiger fishing for years to come. Well Lets atleast Hope the ones their sustain the fishery until the DWR can find another source. Lots and lots of small Tigers all over. I also saw quite a few big Tigers sunning themselfs also. There were lots of Tigers really shallow just hanging out in the sun. Word of advice? If you see theese guys sitting really shallow just sitting there do not even bother trying. My theory is these guys have full bellie and are soaking in the sun raising their matabolism and digesting there lunch. I have never had much luck with these lazy guys.

I fished the whole day up in the middle fork. I fished in the bays mainly in 6 to 8 feet of water. I was using smaller lures in perch and rainbow patterns that woud dive just deep enough not to run through the grass on the bottom. I ended up catching 5 Tigers from small to about 33" being the biggest. All the big boys were not interested today. I also lost probably another 5 due to bad hooksets. 50% aint bad considering my good wrist is broke and I am still not used to fishing left handed. LOL. Also had quite a few follows including a few nice ones but just could'nt get them to take the lure. But short end of the story I Hooked approx. 10 tigers today and easily had as many follows right up to the boat. I have never had that much action in one day from Tigers and they should still be in the shallows another month Smile If you are after Tigers this is the time!!!!!!!!

I included a few pics including a bonus Smallie I got. I only pulled two of the smallest guys out for a picture and video. I was alone with only one good hand so didnt bother bringing any of the others into the boat. Its probably better I didnt catch a big one cause I would have been screwed trying to handle him left handed. Lol

That's pretty cool! I want to get up to Pineview this year and see if I can catch my first tiger. I know nothing of tigers except what I have read on BFT, which has been quite alot, do they hold tight to structure during the summer months or will they hang out in the open water?

I trolled all around pineview for tigers, all I ever caught was alot of nice size smallies and a largmouth then and there. But I had buddies that would catch a 48" tiger every weekend using the same lures hitting the same spots? Sure wish I could have caught one when I lived there.
