First Day Out
#1
I finaly got around to taking the pictures off of my camera.

The day was a little slow (but we didn't get skunked). I caught this little pike in a Creek by my house.

We moved to the Red River, and fished the East bank, just outside of Selkirk. We had just put our lines in the water when My Fiancee caught her first ever Channel Catfish. Its only her second season of fishing.

A little while later, I ended off the day catching this little catfish.

All in all, not to bad a day.

All fish in the pictuers are still swimming around. I figured the pike was to small to eat, My Fiancee's cat was over the legal size limit for eating, and the last cat was just a little on the small side. Well, that, and I've only ever tried eating one catfish before (A bullhead), and it tasted kind of like a tire after I fried it up.

Any fish that has a strong taste can be toned down ahead of time if you soak it for about 3 hours in ice cold milk.

Try it out sometime and then try some of the recipes on the recipe board.[cool]

I'm planning on giving the cats another try this year...after digging up a recipe. I hear alot of folks smoke them around here.

Smoked fish is good if you do it right.

I only had one bad experience with smoked fish. I must have lit it up on the wrong end![shocked] ha ha.

Actually I grew up in an environment of fresh smoked Salmon on a daily basis. I could never get tired of smoked fish. I have never had smoked Catfish but I can imagine that it is darn good.[cool]

I used to love smoked goldeye. We had an oldfridge converted into a smokehouse, and would smoke as many Goldeye as we could catch. The odd Sturgeon too, back when you were allowed to keep one around here.
