Lake Mead Wednesday a.m.
#1
Wednesday, 07/18/07- Hit the water early (5:00 am).

Smooth as glass this morning!

Stripers began boiling in Gov't Wash as the sun came up. It did not last long. Must of tossed fifty times to land four nice fish. A lot of "drive bys", stripers striking but not sticking.

Striper on deck.

Another striper on topwater.

Nice ride back to the marina. Off the water by 8:00 am.

Anyone need a boat?

Four nice fish made it to the cleaning table.

Small shad taken from stripers.

What a great morning on the water. Can't wait to do it again!

[cool]Hey BaySport, Nice to see the glassy condtions on the lake. Also good picture of the shad. Lets me know what size to "match the hatch".

[cool]Nice pics. Have you ever used a 3/8oz. or even a 1/2 oz Kastmaster for those boils? They work like a charm up here
(N Utah) for the wipers. I'm gonna be down in vegas at the end of August and can't wait give the striper fishing a try.

Yes, I have used kastmasters in the past. Got a whole box of them. They should work well. Might want to use up to a 3/4 in August. Kastmasters are very versatile, good for casting and ripping through boils, jigging, and trolling. Cast one into a boil and let it sink and you may get a bigger fish. Both silver and gold with and without skirts do pretty good. Bring them for sure! In addition to jigs bring swimbaits (Storm wildeyed shad 4"), lipless cranks (rattletraps), Topwater (Zara Spook, Spook Jr.), and cut bait and live bait rigs. Unlike Utah, chumming and use of live shad is legal. At the end of August you might be able to net shad. Cut bait at night can be very productive. Expect to catch small stripers from 1-4 lbs. Good luck.
