Back from the Bachelor Party at Mead
#1
Note to self...never go to Mead during summer. Man, was it blazing hot? We were baking in the houseboat. Most of the time was definitely spent in the water. We were probably consuming a bottle of water or soda every hour. That was a little rough for my taste. Even sleeping at night was rough. Yeah, I know we could have turned on the A/C but I know the guys would have freaked over a $1,000 gas bill.

I still had a blast though. The night fishing was awesome as usual. I only had 2 nights to fish. First night, we went to Channel Island on the far east side of Mead. We were lucky enough to attract a huge school of stripers. Fishing was hot all night. Must have landed a few hundred stripers. Unfortunately, I was filleting stripers for hours. That part wasn't as fun because no else knew how to fillet fish. Second night, we fished Delmar Butte. Fishing wasn't good there. Maybe caught 30 stripers at best. We caught a couple in the 7 lb range but fishing was pretty slow at times. But hey, I was at Mead so I was a happy camper.

Can't wait till my annual 8 day houseboat trip in October. Now that's the perfect time for a houseboat trip. Anyway, I'll post some pics shortly. Hope everyone is doing well.

Best regards,

Paul

Who are your friends? I'll make sure to let them know. Where are your reports? Looks like you haven't been fishing much lately. Can't say that I blame you with the 154 degree temps at Mead.

Yep, Southernman. Had a/c but we barely used it. Actually, we used it night right before falling asleep. And let me tell you. We only had the houseboat out for 2 full days and nights, and we ended up spending $330 on gas alone. It's not like we cruised all over the lake either. Yeah, the guys hated me for not turning on the a/c during the day but I'm sure they appreciated not having to fork out another $100 each at the end of the trip. I'm just looking forward to the October trip.

Best regards,

Paul

Yeah, I've taken the 59' houseboat twice, and both times, we had a large gas bill even though we didn't cruise around too much. I guess the generator eats up a lot of gas. Frankly, there is no reason to use the generator that much. The only time you need it is to cook, watch movies, or have the AC on. When I usually go with my "fishing crew" we barely spend any money on gas. Maybe because it's a smaller houseboat (50'). We hardly have the generator on, and the gas bill shows it.

Anyway, I recommend trips later in the year. The weather and fishing are perfect then.

Best regards,

Paul

The Sad truth is I don't have many friends.[Sad] Been back east for a couple of weeks, and now the boat is in the shop. Soon as the boat is serviced I'll be back on the water!
