Every year, as soon as I see snow on the tops of the mountains I seem to be smitten by an insatiable desire for making holes. This year it is so bad that I just went out and bought my first fish finder. The fish in my aquarium have slowly grown accustomed to the sonar transducer but I still want to get out and test it on a real lake.
I'm wondering if mirror lake and/or others up in the uintas would be frozen and still accessible?
Also if anyone is experienced in the art of fishing with a Vexilar (mine is a FL-20) I'll drive if you show me how to get the most out of my new toy.

Oh baby, Welcome to the world of Vexilar! There is no turning back now. I love mine.. WILL NOT ice fish with out it!
There should be a DVD that came with the thing. It has some cool footage and tips on using it. The FL-20 is a sweet model! You'll love it.
I got the cheaper FL-8SE. Yours has a couple features mine doesn't. But, mine catches more fish[cool] (Since yours has caught NONE!)
Whenever I am on the ice and people come and ask me "What is that you're using" I give them a little demo and when I am done they all say the same thing "Where can I get one of those?".

hashbaz: there well not be to much ice any where it utah tell around the 3 week of next month. that gives ya around 5 weeks to get ready.. so go out and enjoy so fall fishing first!

If you find a cure for that itch let me know, cause I've had it for more than a month now. I can't wait to hit the hard deck and get the toys out of the garage.

I'm sure I can get the basics through the DVD, reading on the web, and experimentation. I was hoping to meet up with someone with lots of experience so I could learn the more advanced tricks to fine tuning the settings and understanding what the flasher is telling me it sees down there. But perhaps I should learn the basics first, eh? Walk before running etc.
