Strawberry Tubes
#1
Going to strawberry on Monday. Have never used tubes to catch trout. How are they rigged and how are they fished? Are they bounced off the bottom or with a steady reel? Thanks.

It can vary depending on how the fish are feeling. The other day we fished them pretty slow but not on the bottom, anywhere from 10-30 feet down. We were using white, white speckled, and glow in the dark tubes. A lot of guys fish them with a 1/8-1/4 oz weight, I was using 3/8 and 1/2 on Wednesday due to the wind and fishing never really slowed down. Be prepared for LIGHT strikes, in the late morning and afternoon. As your reeling your tube in you will feel weight on the end, or a heavy feeling....SET THE HOOK, cause its fish on! Took a few minutes to get the "feel" but once we got it figured it it was game on. Tip the jig with night crawler or chub (I ended the day Wednesday going 4 for 4 casting a white 4" tube tipped with a chunk of chub)

if you have a boat you will want to read this. if you don't this post won't help you.as fishy said, light strikes. and hooksets are free. sometimes you'll get a bite and miss him, try to avoid long, sweeping hooksets, you,ll pull the tube out of his sight and by the time it gets back down there, he could be gone. quick snaps work best so if you miss him on the first strike, (which happens allot) the tube is still in sight and will be back in his faced in a second or two. he will hit it again and again till you hook him. it's not uncommon to hookup after missing him 10, even 15 times! we catch lots just verticle jigging tubes. just send her down 40' then jig jig pause 10 seconds, jig jig pause 10 seconds. even deadstick it for a while. most action will occure while the jig is still, shortley after some motion. and i mean soft action. allot of times ya don't feel anything at all till you jig it again. they come up and mouth it, not swim away with it. also, when you suspect a bite, try lowering your rod tip a few ft suddenly. if your line doesn't tighten up suddenly your either on the bottom or it's hookset time. good luck.

p.s. tip your jig hook with a tiny peace of fresh chub meat to add irresistable flavor.
