[#002850]I, along with a couple other guys, plan to boat fish Strawberry tomorrow. Has this cold snap put any ice on the lake? Is the lake still wide open? I appreciate any info you have. Should be PRETTY cold tomorow morning.

Usually the little bays don't freeze up 'till mid December, then the whole lake by around new years day. Take some rock salt as the ramp may be icy.

Brandon is right, that ramp will likely be slipery. It might be wise to have a 4x4 or chains for a 2x4 just in case. Sounds like you have given up on the big blue lake since you started fishing the Berry this year[unsure].

[#002850]It's hard for me to admit that I have given up on Bear Lake but when I stand back and look at what I am enjoying these days, I guess you are somewhat right.
There was a time when I wouldn't trade a 100 trout day for a day with just one big mack but these trout in the Berry are just so good looking, healthy, and large that I can't help but want to go back for the big variety of locations, tactics, and lures that work so well. Keep in mind that Strawberry is a fairly new discovery for me. It too will probably wear down a little in the future. I think that the mack fishing at Bear Lake has slowed significantly over the years while the fishing at Strawberry just keeps getting better and better and better.
I'll still drop plenty of money at the gas pump to drive to the Bear in the future though.[/#002850]

Last year I didn't get up there until the 26th of December and there were 4" at renegade then. Someone replied to my post saying they had been fishing it for 3 weeks already... dunno if that was true or not. Either way, you should be fine to take the boat out up there. [cool]
