Mission Bay fishing help needed
#1
I am going on a family trip to California and renting a condo on Mission Beach in April this year. I'd like to get some fishing in while we are there, anybody know some cheap outfitters and decent area to fish while we are there? I'd like to let my little girl fish in the ocean while we are there, she loves it here. Thanks for any help you guys have [Smile]

[cool][#0000ff]There are a couple of landings in Mission Bay, that will take you out on the open ocean for a half day or full day. They have signs all over the place so you shouldn't have trouble finding them.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]If you want to fish inside the bay, there are a lot of places you can just toss out some lures or bait from the shoreline, for several different species. I think you can rent outboards from the landings too, if you want to troll inside or outside. Just watch the weather and don't leave the harbor if the south swells are coming in.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]If you use a search engine you will find a ton of stuff on Mission Bay, including a list of fishing oriented business.[/#0000ff]

I was there last July and fished with Islandia on their half day boat. I went twice because the fishing was awesome. We caught 20-25 fish each both days. Barracuda, yellow-tail, Bonito, Rockfish, Sandbass, Calico bass, were the majority. Some guy caught a 100 lb shark too. Try to go on a tues., wed., or thurs. so you don't have the crowds. You can see their fish counts on-line too. It says how many fish and how many anglers. Also, you will be very close to Crystal Pier. A lot of locals fish off the pier with standard poles and cut bate and always catch fish. I saw some guys doing some surf fishing right up close to the beach in a foot of water or so and they were catching fish too.

I forgot to say also that I took my 10 year old cousin with me out on the half day boat and he caught a bunch of fish too. Also, unless you know how to use the big rolling reels that they rent to you I would buy a big spin-cast rod and reel and use those. I did that and it was much easier and well worth it. You don't have to worry about the birds nest you get with the other rods. I bought mine at sportsman's for 20 bucks each and they worked great. We go down every other year and always go fishin. You should have a great time.
