Well after a busy weekend...... finally have time to post my report.
After talking with Fuzzy via PM (Thanks Ron).... we decided to test the ice on Palies. Wasn't sure how the ice was going to be after the wind and warmer weather. I went with my Dad, brother, and son. We arrived a little later than expected due to the weather up Spanish Fork canyon. Pulled up to the lake around 8:15am or so. There were 3 groups on the ice in shallow water. They said they were in about 8 feet of water. We ventured out on the ice down the west shore line past everyone and drilled our first holes in 9 feet of water. Ice was about 3 1/2" with a little snow and slush on top. I caught the first fish (15 inch rainbow) in the first 45 minutes. My brother then caught the next 2 rainbows (about the same size as mine). We tested the ice out a little further... about 11 feet. My son caught a 7 inch Tiger there. Not much action [unsure] So we decided to test out a little further... Next hole was in about 13 feet of water.... but the ice was thicker.... about 4 to 4 1/2". We missed a few and saw some on the finder, but just not much action. Kept moving around to try and locate the fish but we didn't have much luck. The deepest we fished was about 14 feet of water. We only fished until 12:30 due to a family party. The ice was definately better out further... less slush and thicker ice.
It seemed like a few of the guys out there did OK... but definatley not great. One of those days I guess. [crazy] On a high note..... just before we left.... We watched as one of the guys that stayed shallow catch a Fat 25 inch Tiger. As we were leaving we stopped by to see it.... definately a nice fish. It took him about 15 minutes or more to bring it to the ice. I guess we should have stayed shallow. Oh well, we ended up with 4 fish.... a few missed hits... and a nice morning on the ice.
