one of the photos shows the catch at the top, I used a fillips flat head wood screw. I ground three sides off leaving one side with a beveled hook,
at the bottom of the bar the hook screw is mounted, is a [ul] [li]hinge I pulled out of my scrap hardwear box. [/li] [li]white brass rung from a boat but you can use an eye screw. the cord is a bungy cord tied with zip ties. I tied a knot on one end, but found it was not nessisary, the zip ties seems to be doing the job... on the other end is tied to an aluminum fence tie I used for a locking pin to lock the cross member in the crossed possision.. I can pull it when I want to fold it to put in a sock I am going to make for it out of a pant leg..[/li][/ul] [center]

when the fish strikes, it tugs the rod end down a nudge, the bevel on the catch pin allows the rod to kick forward then up setting the hook, at the same time the catch pin arm slams in to the base clearing it away from the action,
