the slammer

I have been looking at the slammer and was wondering how you set your jig at the depth you want it with out getting slapped in the face by your rod? or if you want to adjust the jigs depth?

you let the line out to about 1-2 feet depending how much bend you have in your rod from the loaded position to its upright postioin.

take a tape measure and measure the distance from the tip of the rod to the loading pin. mark it that number on your slammer as a reminder...

On my reel I have an added option of throing the battle drag leaver to slip and I can pull out more line if I want to lower it, if I want to raise it, I just have to reel it up, but like any fire arm stand behind the barrol of the gun...[Tongue]

hope that helps....

after making my first one, and still waiting for ice, I decided to make a second with aditional modifications to the first design.. I will try to post pic's of both of mine when I get the second one finished...

I got out to test mine over the weekend, no hits, but I was happy to see my live bait did not set the thingy off...

I ran in to a guy who saw what I was using for pike, he sugested to me a place to go try for lakers,,, if we get a cold snap I will have to venture out that way....

more worm and rain in our forcast and only 6 inches of walkable stuff...[pirate]

I ordered the kit and built it last night. I am having a little problem with the rod I am using in getting the right bend and such, however I am getting it to set and hold. It is definately going to take some figuring out. Hope to try it with some evening wayeye this weekend if the weather holds off.

ya, I think ugly sticks or fiberglass rods are the best, from the looks of the slammer setup, you may have to add an extra eye or move your rod forward or backwards to create the corect bend..

the slammer catch is on the second eye, the one I built hookes on the rod tip.

I had a set the other day with mine, sure was glad to see it go off, and I had plenty of wittness....[Smile]

unfortunatly I was using trebble three times larger than my bait, I was using a walleye minow and using a sturgeon sized trebble,,, so I didnt get my fish, but still the same I was happy to see it go off.... Every one else was impressed as well....[Smile]
