Laguna Niguel Fishing Trip 1/26/08
#1
It looks like we will go to Laguna Niguel Lake once again this coming Saturday. If anyone is interested in joining us, feel free to express it here.

We will most likely meet at the Mickey Dees around the corner from there for some coffee and to exchange pleasantries.

6:00 seems to work out fine as they just open at that time.[cool]

Friday afternoon and all day Saturday at Casitas. What a blast. The old Super Stretchy scored hard as the fish were off and outside their soon to be spawning beds. It takes a while for the SS to sink and half the fish came on the fall, never got a "bite" either day. The fish were just there, and big. Felt like snags until they got goin.Big healthy fat bass just the way I like them.
Woke up Sunday morning to get ready for SARL. Something wasn't right. I felt a little more lightheaded than usual. After making some coffee and taking a shower I was downright spinning. Checked the temp, which is pretty quick nowadays, had a 102 temp. Sick as a dog, wired from getting up early, stuffed up head. Lousy days until this morning. Still achy but I want to fish. We'll see about Saturday, it is the middle of both School and Club Vollyball season and my attendance is mandatory. May require an afternoon trip ,maybe a trip after the main trip. I have to wait until I have my schedule dictated to me( Kids!)

...hope you get to feeling better soon.. Id sure like to see you on the water with us on Saturday... if not it could be a lonely day with just two of us fishing.. but then again.. a wise man told me once that any day that ends in Y is a good day to go fishing... [Smile]

I know what it is to be at the beckon and call of the kids. We will save you a spot on the lake just in case you are able to make a cameo appearance.[cool]

We really have to hide the refreshments over there. I may bring my fly swatter if they don't have any of the "W" going on there.[cool]

It looks like we will end up with fly ear, eye, nose and lip rings if we fling anything over there. It should be pretty nasty as we are getting closer to the day.[pirate]

Maybe Sunday again? Would that affect Dryrods' decision? Bad News for Laguna Niguel, all the rain will kill the bite and the lake will be mud for at least a week after the rains subside. On the plus side the Catfishing can go berserk in the rain there.Flippin' nightcrawlers into the reeds as well as white spinnerbaits can get Wiskers up to ten pounds and some nice Bass to boot.We would have to fish slow to get bit.
Is Castaic or maybe El Capitan available? The Bass should be poking around up at Castaic and they are stocking trout there, and the Bass bite at El Cap should be perking up if we head south. Anyway I'm available to fish Sat until early afternoon or all day Sunday. I am avoiding the many sick people in my life, so I can fish with you guys. After checking out all the usual websites EL Cap is open to tubing and the bass fishing has been decent. It might stay dry down there. It's a bit of a trip for you Northerners but real easy on the eyes and virtually deserted compared to Corona and Laguna Niguel. Castaic makes it easy on Tubn2 and his crowd. What do you think?

...... if the weather is crappy.. then I think we should delay.. but other than that I am open for Sat to a reasonable spot.. Niguel.. Carona.. Elsinore...never been to Henshaw Id be open for that as well.. again weather permitting...

.. as far as Sunday goes...Id be availabe in the afternoon.. say one-ish.. mornings I have obligations I cannot get out of..

...just checked the henshaw site and tubing is not allowed.. but they do have boat rental for 10 - 30 bucks a day.. if not Im sure we could find some piece of shorline to use.. that is if we choose henshaw..

.. maybe we can convice scruffy fly to join us for this one.. we will see.. [Smile]

Stupid Henshaw! El Capitan is five dollars to enter and no fee for tubing. It is only about 40%full and has recieved a small amount of rain from this storm. The bass are in 5 to 20 feet of water and hitting drop-shotted nightcrawlers and plastic worms. Also a jerkbait bite in the morning. There are big Crappie lurking, suspended in 15 feet over the Flats on the north end of the lake. Check these pics.

...wow judging from the shoreline Id say that water is way low.. reminds me of how Jennings was the one time I went out there with MacLarry.. and that was before the big rainy year where it overflowed its dam...

The reel question??? Is it 'fishy' near the launch, because it is still a pretty big lake. If anybody could ever find out its us. BBQ anyone? Fresh Beers! ( I hope TubeN2) Bass Bites? Nothing like fishing in the boonies to bring a group together.

I'm just pitching a vote for El Cap. It is still up to the Kahuna -TubeN2. The forecast is bleak for those that hate rain. Some sub-tropical moisture will pass over El Cap on Sat and Sun. This means intermittant periods of "warmer" rains. Maybe. Whats a few minutes of rain in paradise? I can hang.
