Huge Utah Lake Catfish

[#0000cc][cool][#0000ff]HA. Got your attention. My son-in-law in Tennessee just sent this to me. Could you imagine hanging something like that in Utah Lake? From a float tube? Can you hear the music from Jaws playing in the background?[/#0000ff][/#0000cc]

[#0000cc]Angler Releases Probable World Record Catfish[/#0000cc]
posted January 23, 2008

A TWRA Fisheries Biologist recently distributed this e-mail to his counterparts across the state.

"Attached are a couple of photos of a monster blue catfish caught near Greenville, Mississippi by an elderly man who let the fish go after his wife took the pictures. The weight of the catfish is unknown, though some catfish anglers guessed it to be at least 150 pounds. It looks like 200 pounds to me. For sure it would have been a new world record."

[cool][#0000ff]Here is something from the ESPN Fishing website:[/#0000ff]

[#a50400]Age and Growth
[/#a50400]
Blue catfish grow faster and live longer than channel catfish. They are the largest member of the catfish family. Blues may grow to lengths of over 55 inches and may weigh more than 100 pounds. Maximum lifespan for blues is unknown but is probably 20-25 years.
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Judging by the size, I would say that it is approaching the upward side of the age mark for blues...25 years or so.[/#0000ff]

[black]Actually that guy was a employee of the Utah Wildlife Resources Department, who was on assignment looking for a reportedly new form of catfish living in Utah Lake. [/black]

A picture of the fish he was looking for is attached. lol

Hey I knocked one like that off the end of my wifes fishing line trying to net it for her. It was an accident! She said if it ever happens again I may be looking for a new wife and boat.[shocked]

[cool][#0000ff]Of course they's blue cats in Utah Lake. Flatheads too. Why, I heard tell that them carp nettin' guys had big cats in their nets that towed the boats backwards. Where d'ya think they came up with that little visual for the movie Jaws?[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I suppose that if a channel cat got cold enough, it might turn a bit blue.[/#0000ff]

Hey my dad lives only five minutes away from Greenville, MS. I was there back in November for Thanksgiving. I will ask to see if he has heard anything about this fish.
