Went to Powell for the evening last night (7th) and tried to do some fishing. I new if we caught any it would be a good night. The fishing was slow but I did manage six small catfish and one OK crappie. Caught the cats on anchovies in about 75 to 90 feet of water, and the crappie in about 10 to 12. I think we would have done better but the draw down of the lake may have hurt the fishing. The lake looked good and clear at Bullfrog. We only saw three other fishermen and they were not having any luck. The fishing should pick up if we can get some nice sunny days and stable water levels. It was not as low as I had expected it to be, the shore fishing was kinda tough due to the mud left by the draw down, so take extra shoes or even waders, some of the mud is deep and sticky.

Did you just fish in Bullfrog Bay or what? Those cat's were down pretty far, I have never heard of them being that far down, is that common? Good to finally hear a report from Powell, thanks.

It looked like the water was down about three feet from the line on the bank. I only fished in Bullfrog and did not try any other bays. I have caught those cats at all water depths, it seems like they are really deep now but I sure that will change here in a couple of weeks once the water warms. I had a couple of bites in about 25 feet of water but could not hook them.

They say it was only going to be between two and four feet. The first 36 or so hours it went dow 1.5 feet, but it should be done with by now. I thought it was going to be a week long, but it was only 60 hours of wasted water down the tubes!!!

Is it acting like spring down there. Bugs coming out, trees budding. Flowers blooming. We have just over two weeks before we head down there. I would love to see leaves and flowers. Most of all actively feeding fish.[]

Hey let me know how you do when you go. We have our annual trip the first week in May. We are about 75% sure that we are going to head to Iceberg Canyon this time. As far as the water temp goes it was at 49 degrees the day before they started pumping water out and as far as Friday it was down to 47 degree's, but that is measured at the Wahweap part of the lake!!! I have one of those "Air Cards" for internet and was hoping to post some reports while I am down there, so I guess we'll have to wait and see!!! Good Luck!!!

The wife and I are planning on going to Bullfrog first of april for a few days, Last time we went was in march about 3 years ago and they said the lake had just turned, It was almost impossable to catch a fish, the ranger told us that when the lake turns it brings up lots of feed so their not hungry. I hope it's better this time.

I'm not exactly sure when the lake "turns", but if I were you I would keep an eye on wayneswords.com for all your Lake Powell needs and info. The fishing will get better when the water temp's rise. Right now they are around 47-49 degree's and the fishing really picks up when it gets into the 60's. So like I said, keep an eye on wayneswords to see what is happening down there. On his site you can go to the "water level" (not water level contest) section and click on that and it will give you all sorts of info including the water temp!!! Good luck down there and let us know how you do.
