We ice fished the Ladders for the first time and I am sure we will definitely be doing that more in future years. Thanks for everyone’s advice on the road and parking conditions in that area that we had never been to.
We were pretty surprised to see how deep we had to drill to get to water. BC’s power auger had to go all the way to the power head before hitting watter!
We had camp set up and our lines in the water at about 8:00. We only caught about 12-15 fish between the three of us but I still call that a good day. Nothing like Kentofnsl’s 30+ for one of his team! We took one 23.5 incher home for supper.
It was suggested to us by several people to try rat finkies and waxies. We did and only got a few bites. I got a couple on what-a-crickets but by far, most everything came in on tube jigs tipped with chub.
From about noon on, the camera showed constant fish in our area for entertainment. But do you think we could get them to bite? Boy, I hate that.
It was Vic’s first ice fishing trip in about 20 years. And twenty years ago he never used poles ... just tip-ups. For him there were lots of firsts that kept him pretty entertained: 1) ice fishing with a pole, 2) shortie poles at that, 3) largest trout he has ever caught, 4) ice fishing with sonar, 4) ice fishing with underwater camera, 5) snowmobile rather than walking, and 6) fishing inside a tent out of the wind, snow, and sun burn.
