[size 1]My father and I fished Lost dog on Friday night through Sunday afternoon. The ice was just fine (including most of the shoreline), it was over twenty inches thick. On Saturday and Sunday the air temperature did not go above freezing, however the weather forecast for today through Wednesday calls for temps in the 40s and possibly mid 50s. If you go out to Lost Dog, you may have to look for a good place to get on the ice or bring a board just in case, just be careful if you see soft ice.
Now I will tell you how we did. We arrived late on Friday night, about 1 am. We started fishing around 7:30 am and caught 1 rainbow of about 18 inches right away. We then caught two burbot. It was then slow until about 3 pm. We caught one lake trout, and a man next to us caught 4 rainbows. We then prepared for some serious burbot fishing. We started about 7 pm and caught one a little after. Then, after 8:30 pm the bite really picked up and between then and 1 am we caught 30 burbot between the two of us. Half of the burbot we caught were over 20 inches, and 8 were over 25 inches. The small ones ranged 12-18 inches. We were fishing in about 48 feet of water, and we caught them about 2-4 feet off the bottom. We used glow jigs tipped with chubs meat. We re-charged them very often, because that is when we got more bites. They bite lights so let them have it, and when your line begins to be pulled set the hook then and get them out. It is very important that you do this, otherwise you will lose most bites. We were fishing the point or steep cliff wall across the Lost Dog parking, not by the restroom but to the left of it about half a mile. We found a very good spot for burbot in 48 feet of water, our fish finder showed fish all night, we stoped fishing because we got too sleepy around 1 am, not because they stopped biting. Find this spot, if you go out you will probably see the holes and blood where we fished. When you park walk straight across to the opposite point of the lake where the point bends and turns. You will see alot of bird nests on the cliffs, right where the cliff "ends" that is where we fished.
