Palisades and Nine-Mile Report 3-29-08

It was my birthday, the wife was in Idaho at her baby shower and it was supposed to be a nice day. I was itching for some tubing action and decided to try Palies and Nine Mile. I had just bought a remote control boat and wanted to try catching some fish with it.

I started at Palies and sent the boat out with a bobber and two radical glow jigs. I thre around a pointer with my pole. a whole bunch of nothing for 30 min. After moving the boat around and checking bait a few times, the boat got a huge couple of hits and I hit the gas, FISH ON! The boat would go a few feet and then get pulled back. I fought it for about 15 seconds or so and when I tried to turn the boat to come in to me, it created some slack in the line and the fish got off. The batteries died shortly thereafter so I didn't get to actually cathc one with my boat. I need to get an additional battery pack.

I thenjumped in the float tube and caught 3 bows and one caught in like 4 hours, all on a perch colored pointer - the only thing that they would hit. All between 10-15 inches.

I got some lunch in Manti and went to Nine Mile. In three hours in the tube I landed 4 bows, the biggest being about 18 inches and super purty.

Pretty slow in my opinion for both places but it was nice being in the tube again!

Wow, you pulled basically the same trip I did except I did mine on Sunday.

You got into the fish a little better than I did, at Nine Mile. Only caught one there right when I showed up and then dead for an hour.

Palie gave me an 18 inch tiger and 2 15 inch shiny bows.

I had my tube too. My waders sprung a leak in the right boot and I had to come back in after only 10 minutes or so.[]

That boat idea is pretty good. Next time you should tie it to a rod so you can bring it back. That would be really handy to have so you could get your bait out far enough.[sly]

I went to Yuba (Painted Rocks) on the way home and froze my stuff off without a bite.

i have been hearing of some nice tigers still comeing out of palies. 1 last week was pushing 7 lbs.. they are still in there,

both lakes get hit realy hard this winter..

Palies certainly did get hit really hard. I wonder how many of those people were there because of talk on the forum (like me for example).

I've got an idea for that area this weekend possibly (if I don't decide to try for the kitties at Utah Lake), but I don't want to divulge everything at this point. We'll see what happens, I'll get some pics, and then I'll post.

I also really hope all those big fish aren't being harvested everytime! I only plan on keeping big fish anymore if I plan on mounting them. The big ones don't taste as good anyway in my opinion.

No using live goldfish! Just kidding bud. A pointer minnow is a crankbait put out by Lucky Craft. Great lure, at about $25.00 a pop. You probably want to try the suspending model.

I fished Palies from 8 or so until 12 and than nine-mile from 1-4. The big tigers I caught earlier seemed to be in the early a.m. so i might have been too late.

And I am on the same boat with keeping fish - I only keep huge ones if I will mount them and keep average ones for eating (except for the berry and the ice fishing tournament).

No one was doing well at either lake but I did hear stories of big ones coming out last week.
