Just a quick post on my Lake Casitas adventure, Went there last week to visit family and rented a boat to try out Casitas for the first time.
Couldnt have asked for more beautiful weather, 80's, the water was the right temp, the moon was full the bass were in the shallows but they were more interested in reproducing than eating, I did however manage to catch a couple of them early on the first one on a Zara Spook (1st fish on a Zara Spook) and the other drop shotting a roboworm. The rest of the time I watched alot of bass shy away from anything that came near them, they wouldn't leave the beds just move a couple of feet away. I tried letting the worm sit for ever near them I'd twitch it and they'd move away I'd let it sit, and they'd ignore it, I'd throw a jig near and the same results. It was frustrating but cool at the same time. I watched a couple of the largest bass I've ever seen (and I'm talking huge, gigantic, amazing) you'd have to see for yourself. Anyway I now can see why they throw 12" swimbaits down there. The ones I caught were nice but not huge, I'm going back this summer to take them on again, you now have to rent their crappy boats because they are not allowing outside boats on the water because of the Quagga Muscle scare.
One other nice thing about Casitas... NO Waterskiers, NO Swimmers... That's nice!
