THIS WEEKEND
#1
The second annual UTAH FLY TYING EXPO! Great auctions, classes, tiers, raffles, fun for all. I will be there Saturday, probably all day from the sounds of it.
All money goes to the Stonefly Society Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
Mojo built the most beautiful McFarland rod to be sold or auctioned or raffled.
I will try to get some pixs of it.

[blue]sis you have no idea how much I would love to come up there and see all that glitz and glitter.. and watch you in action at the fly tying table.. but would still love to see pics of it all if anyone thinks to take some..

Id also love to see that rod mojo made.. and would be very curious as to how much it brings at auction..

First off it is a 4 weight, but it flexes right down to the handle (VERY NOODLIE) like allot of bamboos.
The wicker on the cork is awesome for grip, but also looks and old school.

[#008000][cool]I would imagine that wicker is a bit heaver than cork. How much extra weight would it add to the rod? About an ounce?[/#008000]

[#008000][cool]Here is a grip that is sold for around $40 that incorporates a cork grip wrapped with wicker. MacFly might want to take notice for when he starts to make his own rods.[Wink][/#008000]

The wicker was a thin strip, so I wouldn't even say an ounce. The whole rod (remember it is glass not graphite) weighed 3.4 ounces.

I know this for sure cause I have a very accurate scale for weighing my Polish Flies.

I stand corrected, it is not wicker it is Rattan (like bamboo, so strong as heck)[cool]

The rod is beautiful, I went and saw it yesterday. The wrapping thread was a vintage orange varigated thread that looked fantastic on the blank. From what I understand there were 52 $10 cards/chances to win that rod. My idea was to buy one card, win it then as per usual, accidently break it off in my truck door, or fish it in front of MoJo all the time, just to piss him off. Oh well you had to be at the banquet to participate in this raffle, so someone walked off with a beauty.

They brought out another deck of cards on it so it went just short of $6 hundred. He is smiling today for sure. Not sure who won it yet.
It was a great turn out.

[#008000][cool]Wicker can be made from cane as Rattan. So technically you aren't wrong.[Wink][/#008000]
