Boiling wipers??
#1
Hi all,
Has anyone seen the wipers boiling at Willard yet? The water temp has got to be getting close to setting them off. Thanks in advance ;0) Fred K.

It wont be until after the shad fry get big enough to school up,some time in august. It is not determined by the water temp, though I wish it was!

[#800080]From past years reports the Temp of the water places no part in the boil's, only the shad as mentioned, you should see it start about the end of July-Aug, and slowing down around Sept. Watch the birds they give it away most of the time. [Image: happy.gif][/#800080]

Huh? This time last year, and several years before that, they were boiling all over the place by mid June. I've never heard of them taking until August to get going, and have fished boils by the first few days of July at the latest in years past. I expect that the cold winter we had would set the shad back a bit, but until August! I don't think I can make it that long [:/] Thanks for your input ;0) Fred.

I have to agree with FishNCoach, it's still a little early yet for the boils to start.

Ever so wrong. Here is the start of the boils last year. They were heavy at this point. Look at the date.[Wink]

Wiper-Junkie sorry about the different in views here, Like I said I hang my hat at willard more than any other fish place in UTAH, and I tell you that the peak of boil's is not till July, some start this early but unlikely, and you can beleave who you want, if you go to utah forum section, and then to willard and utah fishing you will see many posts on willard and some that I have wrote as well as others, and look at most of the dates. JULY-AUG
It seems as if every time I post LH2 has a Neg time with what I say. hope this helps. I am sure the last word will be LH2.

[#000000]You said right here that it should start at the end of July/August. I just wanted to point out that they have started way earlier than July and usually the first 2 weeks of June the last few years. not trying to cause problems with you. i have not seen a verified boil yet this year.[cool][/#000000]

Well I can tell you for sure there was "No" boiling going on today not even a good bite. Mondays trip put 13 wipers in the boats between 8:30 and noon and several other had the same success. Todays using the same and many other lures and patterns 1 wiper is all we could coast into joining us in the boat. As I told LH2 earlier, surely it was the full moon and not the fisherman, HA!

LeRoy, you have got to quit inviting me to go fishing with you. Whether I am able to go or not I jinx the trip for you.

Not sure about the jinx, maybe some new techniques from the Master would fix these fish that don't want to join the party. Hope your day was better with the family.

LH2 When you make statements like ever so wrong, and "quote what I said" Your in defence with what I am saying, I KNOW they start in June but they do not peak till the end of JULY, Think what you want you will any way!!!
I am done with BFT !!! all big heads here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This time last year I had already hit several boils on a few different days out on the lake. Every year is different but we also were way hotter last year than this year.

Ok, fine by me. I told you in my reply that i was not trying to rip on you. You take it the way you want. I was showing where my reply was based by quoting you.[Wink]

Well I certianlly didn't start this thread to start a firefight! I just asked a simple question. This time last year I was catching boiling wipers, and was wondering if they had fired up yet this year. They weren't carp, and they were definatly boiling. I had my best wiper day of the year on June 29th; 14 fish all caught chasing boils (and they were all released so nobody PM me about keeping too many fish [:p]) I appreciate everyones input. Fred K.

Hi TS,
Good to meet you the other day ;0) Thanks for thinking about me and the wiper tourny. I don't have any interest in competing though. My fishing time is my time to unwind and no worry about everyday stuff. To me a tourny seems like it would take the fun out of something I really enjoy. Take care, Fred.
