Good day gone bad at Jordanelle...
#1
My wife and I headed to Jordanelle Sunday, Arrived a liitle late at 10:00am. Stayed near the north end fishing the coves and points. I have never caught so many "dinks" in my life. 3" - 6" perch (28 total). I kid you not, the smallest was smaller than my pinky finger. How he got the hook in his mouth i will never know. Lots of bait for yuba!!! We totaled 6 smallies, 2 at about 7-8" that I released to get bigger, one keeper at 11", and three at 14"-16" & 18". The last one was FAT. had to go 3 lbs. ended with two perch at 10" & 12" to add to what we caught last week for a perch fry later this week.
Headed to the ramp at 5;00, my wife backed the trailer down, I pulled in, she hooked us up and pulled out about 4 feet to eyeball the boat on the trailer to make sure we were straight. Got to the bow and said "OH #%*@!!
The sugre brake part of the hitch was still attatched to my tahoe, the nose of the trailer is on the ground in 10" of water. The chains are the only thing keeping the trailer from going for a swim.
Not sure what the best way to fix it. I've heard that it might be cheaper and better (as it is a 1976 trailer) to have someone cut the tounge off the trailer and weld a new one on. Jordanelle's mechanic is trying to find pieces to replace it with. Not sure what to do. Any advice would be great!

That will really ruin your day !! Lucky you were on the ramp instead of the road. It is not cool to be standing still and your boat and trailer are going past you !!! Good luck on fixing it !!

Great report sorry about the trailer. At least you had the chains on or it could have been worse.

Nice report, bummer about your trailer though. Hopefully the mechanic can get your trailer going again. Sounds like some bad welds or some really bad corrosion, good thing it did not happen while driving down the road[crazy]. WH2

Would it help to borrow a trailer for the boat and deal with the broken trailer without it? Maybe bring the trailer home seperately on a flat bed?

You got that right!! Thank the good Lord we were on the ramp and not coming down I-80 at 70mph! That would have been a disaster if not fatal!

was your hitch welded on or bolted on? sounds to me you broke your bolt's or the weld broke.. ether way good it was there and not when you were driving down the road..

think i would have backed it back into the water and left boat in a slip off to the dock then pulled back out with just the trailor. left the boat and called a flat bed to to a heber trailor dealer or repair shop then went back. break downs are no fun. at least your close. 6 weeks ago i got to leave mine at flaming gorge and go back with parts.[mad]

Ouch. I think you are entiltled to 2 Mad emoticons. That's rough. Reminds of a mechanical breakdown I had on the EAST side of the Gorge. Had to rent a car to drive to SLC just to pick up parts. Was in town 25 minutes, just long enuff to pick up the parts, some Krispy Kremes for the mechanic, and was back on the road to Rock Springs.

"Gear failure" completely sucks.

Every place in Rock Springs told me 2 - 3 days to get a lower ball joint. That's when a rental car suddenly started looking very appealing. I suspected I had ball joint problems b4 I left on the trip; it's just that Mark Miller didn't have one in stock (so I could have a spare for the trip). And even though they didn't have one when I had left town, they made sure to find one when I called them from Rock Springs. In like 4 hours. Love those guys.

It's like Therapist wrote. I felt totally lucky the LBJ didn't come apart going over a bridge seam @ 65 MPH. Instead it was in a sandwash gully going about 3 MPH. To this day, I feel VERY lucky about that.

Glad you got to make the best of a bad situation, and got some extra fishing time in.
